Since the Group began running our passenger service up to the Laight, it was realised that the relatively limited water capacity in the saddle tank of steam loco NCB No. 10 was not going to cope without being topped up during steam days.
Therefore, the decision was taken to move the former BP Chemicals Tank Waggon 707392401 down to the running platform, to allow No. 10 to be topped up in between passenger services, thereby saving having to take No. 10 back up to the shed to replenish the saddle tank.
Having taken that decision, it was decided to repaint the tank waggon, and you can see the results at the foot of this page.
Since the waggon is now much more presentable, it was also decided to run it with the fireless loco on the few days when it is in steam, thereby providing visitors with an idea of the type of waggon the fireless would have shunted during its working career. We think the two vehicles compliment one another extremely well.
