A long time since we reported on progress at Dunaskin not least because of a lack of appropriately qualified volunteers to manage our website. However we now have at least one member who can help in this area - more would be welcome - and we now hope to keep you up to date with SIRC activities on amore regular basis.

Over the past year the SIRC has seen the major changes in operations outlined below which we believe have significantly enhanced the attraction of the Centre.

       RUNNING TO THE LAIGHT.

Following much hard work by our weekday volunteers, the middle of the 2018 running season saw us transfer our public service journey moving from the Dunaskin long siding to the Chalmerston coal line, with an initial run as far as the Cutlers Tip Cattle Creep.

Further work during the 2018/2019 closed winter period season enabled us to refurbish more of this line and as from the start of the 2019 season in May our train is now making a two mile round trip to the Laight Farm Crossing which involves a significant climb for our small locomotives and towards the top now provides a spectacular view towards, Dalmellington, Loch Doon and the Galloway Hills.

       THE LMS ENGINEERS SALOON.

At the start of the 2019 Season we also introduced our historic LMS Enginers saloon into regular passenger service. With observation windows at each end of the vehicle, comfortable seats for all and riding on main line standard bogies this vehicle provides a distinctly different experience to that delivered by our traditional brake van.

Do come along and experience our changes. Trains now operate every 20" on open days and the operating days can be found by clicking the link above.

We look forward to welcoming you.
